Anna Glantz
Where does one’s eye navigate to when seeing one of Glantz’s pieces? There is a mix of styles into her work which is intriguing and playful.
The image of a pregnant man is a great example. There is so much detail to the belly, yet the butterflies that surround him are in the most simplistic of ways-- childlike. This is seen a lot through her works in this exhibition.
The image of a plane has so much depth and detail of the sheet, or curtain, that the aeroplane almost seems like an afterthought.
Her works also share some similarities to renaissance paintings, like the ones with small children. Some of the paintings even share a space, a room, where events take place. They could be completely unrelated or images from different times.
The main image is the prophetic self-portrait of Glantz’s pregnant body. She’s currently childless but in this image, she pictures what she’ll look like if and when she does become pregnant.
Anna Glantz is an American painter based in Queens, NY. Her work was shown in The Approach Gallery in East London. The exhibition closed early due to Covid restrictions.
